Stamp No. 040Claire Colin

Claire is a multidisciplinary French artist who juggles between illustration, design, publishing, and scenery in fashion, textile, cosmetics, and haute couture. Her creations are an ode to the living, to the elements, to fauna and flora. She loves it when the work vibrates, when the colors burst, when the images are full of details. Everything interests her as long as she is having fun.

Have you designed a stamp before?

No it’s the first time, a childhood dream come true!

What was the most interesting or fun aspect of designing a poster stamp? What unique challenges did it present?

What was most interesting to me in this creation was considering the composition of my image.

I wanted to illustrate an oasis for the symbols of hope it conveys and I wanted the overall illustration to consist of different small scenes or landscapes, and for each stamp to tell its little story within the global story.

Tell us about the art. Did you create something new for this stamp?

I am fascinated by the Egyptian civilization, its decorative art and its symbols. I have long wanted to pay homage to this civilization while bringing my personal and graphic touch. My way of bringing a little hope in these troubled times.

Anything else?

I hope this project will make postal services in other countries want to use my creativity!
